Registering

How do I register for a program?

Registering for a program on the McGill Executive Institute website is easy and convenient. Follow these simple steps:

  • Navigate to the specific program or seminar page that interests you.
  • Locate the "Add to Cart" button next to the desired session dates and click on it.
  • Proceed to the "Cart" page and click "Check Out".
  • You will be prompted to create an account. Register as a "Guest" unless you are a McGill employee.
  • Fill in the required participant information on the registration form.
  • Choose your preferred payment method under the "Payment Options" section.
What payment methods are available during the registration process?

We offer two main payment options for your convenience:

  • Credit Card: You can securely complete your payment using a major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or American Express) during the checkout process.
  • Wire transfer, E-transfer, or FOAPAL: If you prefer an alternative payment method, select this option during registration. This will allow you to request an invoice for your program fees and make a payment using one of the following methods:
    a. Wire transfer
    b. E-transfer
    c. FOAPAL (for McGill Employees)

Please note that your registration will not be confirmed until payment has been received.

What is required registration information?

Please provide us the following details at registration time;

  • Prefix - Mr., Mrs., Dr. or Prof.
  • Full Participant Name
  • Participant Company – Printed on the participant name plate
  • Participant Job title – Used to build seminar teams with different backgrounds
  • Participant Company Address
  • Business Phone and/or Cellphone Number
  • Email address – Seminar communication and registration confirmation will be sent to this email address
  • Food allergies (for in-person programs only) – List or confirm if None or Unknown
  • Payment Method – Credit Card, Company Cheque, Personal Cheque, Invoice (clarify with or without PO)

The McGill Executive Institute reserves the right to request and review past occupational, academic, and/or linguistic experience to decide if a candidate meets the requirements for admission to any of its open-enrollment programs.

How does McGill University staff register?

Please call us at 514-398-3970 for more information – payments by McGill University FOAPAL are tax-exempt.

Do you offer tax exemptions for Indigenous participants?

Yes, Indigenous participants may be eligible for tax exemptions under certain circumstances. For more details on if you are eligible to apply for these exemptions, please email us at executive@mcgill.ca.

Payments

When do I pay the program fee?

Payment must be received in full 2 weeks before the start of the seminar. Your position in the program is confirmed only when payment has been verified by our accounting team.

What is included in the registration fee?

The Registration Fee includes tuition, seminar supplies, meal service (breakfast, lunch and breaks), and a certificate of completion from the McGill Executive Institute. The fee is subject to the taxes of the province in which the program is delivered.

What is the Cancellation & Transfer Policy?

Cancellation requests
Cancellation requests must be received by email at least 14 calendar days prior to the seminar start date for a full refund. Restrictions apply for international payments and certain programs – please contact us for more information.

Cancellation requests received less than 14 calendar days prior to the seminar start date are not subject to refunds but a transfer can be requested – see Transfer Requests below.

Transfer requests
If a participant wishes to transfer to another seminar, a transfer request must be sent by email to executive@mcgill.ca.

Transfer requests received at least 14 calendar days prior to the seminar start date are completed at no charge. Once a transfer request is approved, the “credit” can be applied to any seminar within 12 months of the original seminar start date (price difference may apply). 

Transfer requests received less than 14 calendar days prior to the seminar start date are subject to a $295 CAD transfer fee*, payable by credit card. Once a transfer request is approved, and we have received full payment of the transfer fee, the “credit” can be applied to any seminar within 12 months of the original seminar start date** (price difference may apply). 

Note that after a transfer, no refunds, cancellations or additional transfers are permitted; however, participants may send a qualified substitute in their place at no charge.

*Please note that for the Mini MBA and Lean Six Sigma Black Belt programs, a transfer fee of $495 will apply. 

**“Credit” from an uncompleted Transfer Request will be automatically forfeited after 12 months of the original seminar start date.

Forfeit Fee
If a participant gives no notice prior to the seminar start date and/or fails to show up, the full fee will be forfeited as of the first day of the program.

Note on Wire Transfers
If a learning service at the McGill Executive Institute is purchased for by wire transfer, any applicable refund must be made back to the original source and location of the wire transfer.

 

Which credit cards are accepted for payment?

Visa, MasterCard, and American Express are accepted.

Can I apply for a tax credit or deduction with these seminars?

Our programs are certified for Quebec’s 1% training obligation and the McGill Executive Institute is a qualified training provider under the Canada-Ontario Job Grant.

Our registration number with the Quebec Ministry of Education, Leisure and Sport is # 979000.

Logistics

When will I receive a detailed program schedule?

Further instructions will be sent by email approximately 14 days prior to the seminar start date. If there is any pre-seminar work to be completed, it will also be sent at this time.

What do I receive upon completion of a program?

The certification you receive will depend on the specific program you complete. Below is a summary of the various certifications awarded upon successful completion of our programs:

  • Lean Six Sigma: Upon completing this program, you will receive a Certification accredited by the Council for Lean Six Sigma and McGill University. The type of certification depends on the program completed and its duration. For example, completing the Green Belt program by the 4th day grants you a secondary certification in Building a Lean and Agile Organization.
  • Scrum Master and Agile Development: After successfully finishing this certification program, you will receive a SCRUM Master certification.
  • All Microcredential Programs: For all other microcredential programs offered by the McGill Executive Institute, you will receive a Certificate of Completion. This certificate will include your name, the seminar title, and the completion date.
What should I bring for an On-Campus Program?
  • Laptop or electronic device: As we strive to minimize surface contact and reduce paper waste, most of the program materials will be provided in e-copy format. Having your own device will allow you to access and interact with these materials easily.
  • Writing materials: Bring your preferred writing tools, such as pens, pencils, and notebooks, to take notes and participate in various activities throughout the program.
  • Additional materials: Prior to the program start date, please check MyCourses for any specific material requests or pre-course assignments. Be sure to bring any required items as indicated.
What is expected during an online session?

Our programs consist of interactive sessions featuring breakout sessions and group discussionsActive participation is required, and we highly recommend keeping your cameras on to enhance your overall learning experience. 

To maintain a positive experience for all participants, individuals who are absent for an extended period will be temporarily placed in the virtual waiting room.

Please note the sessions are not recorded.

What is the McGill Executive Institute's smoking/vaping policy?

In compliance with McGill University Smoking Policy, smoking or vaping is not permitted in our facilities. You may choose to go outside in the designated areas for smoking/vaping.

Is there a dress code?

Our participants tend to dress business casual. We do recommend, however, that you dress in layers, as not everyone feels comfortable at the same room temperature.

What should I do if I have allergies and will be attending an on-campus or in-person program offered by the McGill Executive Institute?

For your safety and well-being, it is important that you inform us about any allergies you may have when creating your account on our website. If you forgot to mention your allergies during the registration process, please reach out to us at executive@mcgill.ca as soon as possible to update your information.

At the McGill Executive Institute, we prioritize the health and safety of all participants in our on-campus or in-person programs. While we take every precaution to accommodate individuals with allergies, it is important to note that we cannot guarantee an entirely allergen-free environment. By attending our on-campus programs, you acknowledge that you are responsible for informing us about your allergies and taking necessary measures to manage your allergies, such as carrying appropriate medication. McGill University, the McGill Executive Institute, its employees, and representatives shall not be held liable for any allergic reactions or related incidents that may occur during the program.

What happens if a seminar date is modified or cancelled?

Although it is a rare occurrence and every attempt is made to honor dates posted on our website, the McGill Executive Institute reserves the right to cancel or reschedule the date of a seminar up to two (2) weeks prior to the start date.  In such cases, participants can transfer their payment to the revised/rescheduled date, apply their payment to an equivalently-priced seminar, or receive a full (100%) refund for seminar registration fees already paid.  Note that McGill cannot refund any travel or other expenses resulting from the cancellation and it is strongly recommended to book refundable or modifiable travel arrangements.

Yes. In fact, over half of the Institute’s work involves delivering customized learning solutions to an organization or team. Our faculty team can travel to your office or another selected training facility anywhere in the world, or your managers can come to our downtown Montreal venue.
